You’d think that community management bloggers would slow down over the summer, but there were lots of great posts to choose from for July’s top five.
1. 10 Commandments for Community Managers
Alison Michalk comes up with a great list reminders for novices and community management pros alike. I really can’t add anything more. Just read them.
Rosemary O’Neill invents a new word and reminds us that “threadkillers” can take a thriving conversation and stop it cold — if we let them. She’s got great tips to keep the thread flowing.
3. Look For New Discussion Ideas
Richard Millington has a suggestion for community managers looking to generate activity: Look at other message boards and see what’s working there. More often than not, you’ll find that compelling topics are universal.
4. Veteran Members of Your Community Have Greater Influence and Responsibility
Longtime participants are the lifeblood of any community. They are valuable assets and must be treated that way. Patrick O’Keefe writes that while veteran members may get more leeway from community managers, they must also take on more responsibility.
5. Trolls: The Town Drunks Of The Internet
Tim Cushing’s entertaining take on a Northwestern University study that compares the loss of inhibition brought on by drinking to the loss of inhibition brought on by the anonymity of the Web. A must-read.
Any great blog posts from July I left out? Please leave a comment with your additions.
